Sunny Mystery

The new a-ha album 'Foot of the Mountain' can be heard in its entirety online here.

Paul wrote a few of the songs on his own; Magne contributed music and lyrics to a few songs jointly with Paul; there is only one song credited just to Magne, called 'Sunny Mystery.' Collapse )

Having listened to the album an embarrassing number of times already, I have to say that I am very happy with it as a whole. Magne and Paul writing together = happy me. And 'Sunny Mystery' is quite nice, but if I didn't already know Magne wrote it I don't think I would have been able to identify him as the songwriter. It's always a fun exercise for fans to pick out who wrote what, on this album I would have failed that test miserably ;-)

EDIT: Here are the lyrics for 'Sunny Mystery' per the scanned liner notes:

You can run through every forest
You can sail the seven seas
You can climb the highest mountain
To try dissolve these memories

In case you never knew it
You can't undo it

You can jump off the edge of the world
Hide out in some monastery
Lose your mind in meditation
And never put your mind at ease

You think you're running to it
But you're wading through it;
A sunny mystery

Life is the dream that you wake up to
Dreams are the life from which you wake
Everybody makes the extra effort
Never knowing what to do

But you know the answer
Yeah, you know the score
It feels just like before

It's a sunny mystery
That's how it's got to be
Because no one knows for sure
The outcome of this
Sunny mystery

Predictably it's one of my favorites on the album, but the whole album is great, not a skipper on it. That hasn't happened for me since 'Scoundrel Days'. Well done, guys :-)
